Brief History

- How the Partnership Began -

Chesapeake Greens LLC is a business partnership that was formed nearly two decades ago by two friends that met while plebes at the U.S. Naval Academy. Following graduation, we chose to serve our country as both naval officers and aviators. Our commitment to serve with honor and excellence still guides us today in our roles as reserve military officers, airline pilots, and business owners.

- Why custom putting greens -

The Challenge. Although our aviation careers provide plenty of challenges nothing has been more satisfying and challenging than planning, running, and growing a successful business. Chesapeake Greens continues to flourish and we continually challenge ourselves to build a better green. We constantly strive to improve our service and quality as we increase in size.

The Love of the Game. Golf has always been a big part of our lives. As kids we led many golf ball hunting excursions at the local courses. As we grew up we began playing and working at those very same courses. As adults our flying careers have given us the opportunity to play at courses all over the world. Golf has been a great way to socialize and enjoy the outdoors. A good golf shot is every bit as satisfying as a smooth landing.

A Great Business Idea. The synthetic putting green combines three exciting growth industries: home improvement, home recreation, and golf. For this reason we believe that Chesapeake Greens will continue to build on the success of our first two years in the Washington/Baltimore area. No longer do you have to go to the local course or driving range to have a friendly family putting contest, entertain guests, or practice all those important short game shots. We have been pleasantly surprised at the response we have had for our indoor greens. More and more people are converting unfinished basement space into an indoor golf oasis. Indoors or outdoors, a Mirage synthetic putting green is an innovative home recreation improvement that can be enjoyed by golfers and non-golfers of all ages.

- Why We Chose Mirage -

After exhaustively researching the synthetic putting turf industry we chose to represent Mirage for three reasons:

First, Mirage became the industry leader when they revolutionized synthetic turf by engineering the first golf turf that does not require a sand infill. Simply put ... our greens are maintenance free.

Second, Mirage continues to lead the synthetic golf turf industry by simply focusing on what they know best - golf turf. Unlike some other firms that merely shorten the length of a generic sports turf and call it a putting turf, Mirage has succeeded in recreating the look, feel and performance of the highest quality bent grass greens.

- Jay's Story -

The idea behind Chesapeake Greens LLC was conceived one evening while visiting my parents at their golf course community home set next to the 14th green. One evening, after the last group passed, my father grabbed a bunch of putters and balls and led everyone out to the green. For the next hour, until it grew too dark, we played a variety of putting contests and games. One team contest pitted the kids against the adults. Another individual game was a putting version of the popular basketball game 'Horse'. As I walked back to the house laughing with my kids, it suddenly hit me. That green became the catalyst for more fun than any video game or piece of sporting equipment I could remember. I was hooked. I wanted one in my own backyard. Unfortunately, I didn't live on a golf course. But was there another way?
